From our home in Charleston, Tennessee, Wright Brothers Construction grew from a small family operation into one of the Southeast's most trusted heavy-civil contractors — over half a century of completing some of the region's most challenging projects.
Moving Millions of Cubic Yards
Major site-preparation work — including moving millions of cubic yards of excavation in Alabama — proved our crews could take on the largest earthwork and industrial projects in the South and deliver them with urgency and precision.

1961
The Wright Brothers begin. James and Robert Wright decide to purchase a bulldozer from their father and start digging ponds for local farmers, doing small jobs clearing right of ways for Tennessee contractors.
1964
Wright Brothers Construction Co. builds section of the Upper River Road in Bradley County, Tennessee where they made their first issue of Dixie Road Magazine when they hit sand in an area that previously had been thought to be highly plastic clay.
1967
Wright Brothers Construction Co. awarded first contract with the Tennessee Department of Transportation as primary contractor.
1968
Wright Brothers Construction Co. joins the Tennessee Road Builders Association
Wright Brothers Construction Co. rebuilds 4.3 miles of state road, formerly gravel, in Lawrence County, Tennessee. On a job budgeted at 125 working days, Wright Brothers stayed way ahead of schedule, after only working 36 days the job was two-thirds complete
1972
Current corporation formed for Wright Brothers Construction Co.,Inc
1975
Robert Wright serves as Director of the Tennessee Road Builders Association from 1975-1978.
1978
Robert's son, Steve, emerges as new player in the company, serving as project manager on various sites and leads a growth that was to move the Wright Brothers into a firm position as one of the top players in the grading business in the Southeastern United States.
1980
Charleston Construction Company chartered as an affiliate company with Wright Brothers Construction Co., Inc. specializing in drilling, blasting, and excavation of landfills, water and sewer lines. Stephen Wright serves as President
1981
Tom Whitsitt, a licensed Professional Engineer who has been working in all phases of Civil, Structural, and Sanitary Engineering and Construction management since 1962, joins the company. Tom serves the company as Vice-President, Chief Engineer and Estimator and his strong innovative skills at problem solving, legal interpretation and construction management are invaluable.
1983
James Wright serves as Director of the Tennessee Road Builders Association.
Robert's daughter, Cindy W. Freeman, joins the company, and now serves as Controller of Wright Bros. Construction, Charleston Construction Co. and T.C. Stone.
1984
One of the largest new road construction projects in Tennessee since the Interstate Program, "Corridor J" is undertaken by Wright Brothers Construction and completed in 1993.
1989
1989–1990: Tom Whitsitt serves as Director of the Tennessee Road Builders Association
1990
T C Stone Inc. chartered as an affiliate company with Wright Brothers Construction Co., Inc. performing custom crushing as well as drilling, blasting, excavating and hauling. T C Stone provides D.O.T. limerock aggregate for construction projects in several states and has operated quarries in Tennessee and Georgia.
1990
Wright Brothers Construction Company awarded first project with FHWA Project 25-E9 in Cumberland Gap Historic Park.
1991
Wright Brothers Construction awarded first of two US 23/I-26 Projects in Unicoi County, TN. This corridor was one of the largest public works projects in the United States at that time.
1992
Stephen Wright elected to the Board of Directors for the Tennessee Road Builders Association.
1997
Robert Wright awarded the "Christian Business Leader of the Year" from David Lipscomb University, Nashville, Tennessee.
Wright Brothers awarded a project in Madison County, NC which will complete the I-26 Corridor from Asheville, NC to Johnson City, TN.
1998
James and Robert Wright awarded the "Distinguished Service Award" in recognition of over 40 years of excellence in leadership and devoted highway construction industry by the Tennessee Road Builders Association.
Stephen Wright serves as Director of the American Road and Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) as well as President of the Tennessee Road Builders Association.
Wright Brothers awarded an 8.14 mile project in Watauga County, NC on U.S. Highway 421
1999
Stephen Wright elected 2nd Vice President of ARTBA Contractors Division.
Wright Brothers contracted for an 8.6 mile section of I-840, the largest monetary contract ever awarded by the Tennessee D.O.T.
