Beams Replacement of the two SR 68 bridges over US 64 in Ducktown

October 20, 2025
Last Thursday, crews successfully set beams for the replacement of the two SR 68 bridges over US 64 in Ducktown. The new bridges will provide improved vertical clearances along US 64 (SR 40), allowing safer and more efficient travel beneath the structures once complete.
This operation was conducted overnight. a strategic choice to reduce traffic impacts and enhance safety for both motorists and workers. Nighttime beam sets allow crews to work during periods of lighter traffic, when full or partial closures can be implemented with minimal disruption. Cooler temperatures also improve certain construction conditions, such as the handling and placement of steel components and concrete materials, while providing better visibility for crane operators under controlled lighting.
Throughout construction, SR 68 will remain reduced to one lane in each direction, with occasional short-term closures on US 64 as bridge removal and installation activities continue.
