Stunning images show our crews set ting rail cars in place to form the temporary entrance into Chimney Rock State Park — a critical step to maintain visitor access while improvements continue. These rail cars are being repurposed as bridge decks, creating a stable and efficient solution to span the impacted area. Over the next week, our team will weld everything together to ensure structural integrity and durability, keeping us right on schedule for paving before Memorial Day weekend.

This effort carries even more weight given what the town of Chimney Rock, NC has endured. Hurricane Helene devastated the village and surrounding areas, with heavy rain and flooding leaving homes, businesses, and critical infrastructure severely damaged or destroyed. For a time, the community was impassable.

Today, Chimney Rock is rebuilding with resilience and hope. As the town works toward a partial reopening this summer, we are proud to help restore access to one of North Carolina’s most treasured landmarks.
