We're making history in North Carolina! At Incinerator Road, located in Haywood County, we're building the state's first pre-cast culvert tunnel to allow traffic to pass under I-40. This innovative solution is designed to support the future widening of I-40 and will be completed in two phases, with an estimated completion date in 2028.

This phased construction effort required building up nearly 19,000 cubic yards of surcharge, laying the groundwork for the massive pre-cast concrete culverts that will replace the current eastbound and westbound lanes. Once completed, drivers will travel through a tunnel tall enough for tractor-trailers and wide enough to accommodate two lanes of traffic.
