Project Narrative
This project replaced a structurally deficient 1937 bridge on Georgia State Route 48 spanning the East Fork Little River, located approximately 3.7 miles northeast of Menlo in Chattooga County. The original 160' x 32' structure had a sufficiency rating of 41. The new bridge spans 220' x 40' with two 12' lanes flanked by rural shoulders. Traffic was detoured via an on-site detour constructed south and west of the existing alignment due to a known population of the federally threatened Sagittaria Secundifolia plant species in the project vicinity. The 0.307-mile project was constructed under a contract with the Georgia Department of Transportation.
