Project Narrative
The Volkswagen Assembly Plant site preparation project is located in Chattanooga, TN. Over a six-month period, Wright Brothers crews completed 4,475,000 CY of mass excavation, 1,880,000 CY of drilling and blasting, and 204,000 TN of base stone placement. Work proceeded 12 hours per day, 6 days per week. At peak production, excavation crews consistently averaged 50,000 CY per day. The work was accomplished with 95 pieces of earthmoving equipment from Wright Brothers' own fleet. To maintain grade control, Topcon GPS equipment was placed on dozers, motor graders, trackhoes, and supervisors' pickup trucks so all personnel were working with the most up-to-date information at all times.
